On Wednesday, May 24, 2023, the National Endowment for the Arts announced it will award the Oregon Arts Commission a $1,016,100 grant to support its programs, services, and activities associated with carrying out the agency's National Endowment for the Arts-approved strategic plan.
“Creative expression through art is incredibly powerful,” said Rep. Salinas. “Yet we too often see arts programs suffer from budgetary cuts and constraints that hinder their ability to enrich our communities. That’s why I’m so pleased that the National Endowment for the Arts has chosen to award the Oregon Arts Commission a grant for more than $1 million. Those funds will be used to bolster their vital arts programs, services, and activities to the benefit of our entire state.”
The Oregon Arts Commission was established in 1967 to foster the arts in Oregon. Nine Commissioners, appointed by the Governor, determine policies, establish long-range plans, and review applications to grants programs to determine funding levels. The Arts Commission is supported with general funds appropriated by the Oregon legislature, federal funds from the National Endowment for the Arts, and funds from the Oregon Cultural Trust.
“The National Endowment for the Arts is pleased to support a wide range of projects, demonstrating the many ways the arts enrich our lives and contribute to healthy and thriving communities,” said NEA Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, PhD. “These organizations play an important role in advancing the creative vitality of our nation and helping to ensure that all people can benefit from arts, culture, and design.”
In addition to the $1,016,100 grant to support the Oregon Arts Commission, the NEA announced $103.1 million in funding for arts organizations in all 50 states. To learn more about these funds and how they’ll be used, click here.
