A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Oregon Secretary of State - Elections Department regarding the upcoming spring election candidates on February 6, 2025.
As a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at Mid Valley Reporter requested records under the Oregon Public Records Law, §192.410 et seq., preferably in electronic format.
The specific information requested includes a list of all candidates running for the upcoming election. The details sought for each candidate include their first, middle, and last names; the office they are running for; the jurisdiction of that office; and their party affiliation.
In addition to this, we also requested all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.
As members of the media involved in gathering and reporting news to the public, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These responsibilities include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Given our role in disseminating information, we believe we are eligible for a fee waiver as media professionals.
We await a response from the Oregon Secretary of State - Elections Department regarding this request.
