Salem, Ore. — A 25-year-old Salem man was arrested on May 10, as part of an investigation into the death of an infant in the spring of last year.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. on April 12, 2022, Salem Police officers and paramedics responded to the call of a six-month-old baby who was unconscious and not breathing normally. Resuscitative efforts by emergency responders were unsuccessful, and the child was pronounced deceased at the scene.

A Salem Police Criminal Division investigation resulted in the arrest of the child’s father, Edward William Casian, for the murder of the infant.

Casian was lodged at the Marion County Jail on the charge of murder in the first degree. He is due to be arraigned on May 11 at 2:30 p.m. at the Marion County Criminal Court Annex.
