Salem Public Library is pleased to introduce the new Library of Things (LOT)! The LOT is a unique collection that offers you the chance to check out a variety of useful items. Some are items that most people need to use only once or rarely. Some allow you to “try before you buy” if you are considering a purchase. The Library of Things supports a larger goal to reduce, reuse, and recycle in our community.

The Library of Things is a new project, funded by the Materials Management Grant Program from the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality.

Available items are displayed on the Library of Things shelves on Floor 1 at the Main Library, 585 Liberty St. SE. Interested in checking out an item? Here is what you need to know:

  • Items must be checked out at and returned to the Main Library.
  • Each cardholder may check out one LOT item at a time.
  • Items check out for three weeks, with no renewals.
  • LOT items can only be placed on hold by cardholders with Salem Main or the West Salem Branch as their home library.
  • To check out an item:
    • Sign a waiver (waivers are located on the LOT shelving).
    • Bring the item and waiver to the Floor 1 Ask Here Desk to check out.
To see what is included in the Library of Things, browse the online catalog.
