Warrior Men’s Wrestling Student-Athlete Markus Johnson Named to 2022-23 NAIA Daktronics Scholar-Athlete List

The NAIA National Office announced on Thursday morning the entire list of Men's Wrestling Scholar-Athletes for the 2022-23 academic year, where the Corban University Men's Wrestling team was represented by one student-athlete that earned the recognition of National Scholar-Athlete, junior Markus Johnson.

"Markus is an incredible young man and absolutely deserving of this recognition," Warriors' Interim Head Coach Kary Hadden shared when he learned of Johnson's accomplishment. "He is exactly the kind of student-athlete we strive to have in our program, and I'm so proud to have him with our group."

This year's NAIA Men's Wrestling Scholar-Athlete list contains over 200 student-athletes from 58 different schools across the country. In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, must appear on the eligibility certificate for the sport and have attended one full year at said institution.

Johnson earned himself a spot on the Scholar-Athlete list after performing exceedingly well in the classroom over the past three years, posting a cumulative GPA of 3.63 to lead the team academically. This past season, Johnson worked incredibly hard as one of the Team Managers for the program, attending practices and traveling with the team to help Coach Hadden and the rest of the coaching staff in preparing for every meet.

The Corban Men's Wrestling team has sent four individuals to compete in the NAIA National Tournament over the weekend, where they can be watched on the national stage starting tomorrow by clicking HERE to see the viewing options available on FloWrestling. All championship matches set for Saturday will be aired on ESPN3. To view all live results via the statistics provided on TrackWrestling, click HERE to access the tournament portal.
