"I was a medic serving in the National Guard from 2010 to 2019.

"I was a medic serving in the National Guard from 2010 to 2019. After completing a deployment in 2015, I was inspired to pursue a career in nursing. Eighteen months after my daughter was born, I was accepted into the nursing program at Chemeketa. During this busy personal time, applying for a scholarship didn't cross my mind, and I didn't think I deserved it.

After classes began, we were highly encouraged to apply for scholarships. At this time, I was living at home with my parents with my young daughter. I did not expect to be given a scholarship, and now I am thankful. The generosity in helping students pursue their goals is beyond commendable. I am humbled by this act of kindness. This opportunity will not be wasted."
