Nine Straight Sweeps Headlines No. 5 Corban Women’s Volleyball in Dominate Victory at Walla Walla

The No. 5 Corban University Women's Volleyball team (16-2, 9-1) smashed their way to yet another three-set sweep in conference play, this time taking down the Wolves of Walla Walla University (0-10, 0-10) at Windemuth Court, with final set scores of 25-12, 25-9, and 25-13.

"The team really focused today to earn this win!" Corban Head Coach Kim McLain said following her squad's dominate victory. "I was proud of how they played as a unit, working with effort and not looking past any details of the game."

Despite losing the opening point of both the first and second set, the Warriors strung together run-after-run to keep the Wolves at bay, including five-straight points via four kills and a service ace from senior opposite hitter Ally Schmidt wedged in the middle to close out the first set 25-12.

In set number two, Corban put together two five-point runs and a seven-pointer to run away quite literally with the set, where the Warriors held the Wolves to just four total team kills. Sophomore outside hitter Rylee Troutman recorded four kills all on her own in the second set, leading Corban to a 25-9 set win.

The Wolves managed to stay within reaching in the third and final set, as they scored on back-to-back points to pull within a 11-16 deficit. However, yet another five-point run by the relentless Warriors' attacking core gave Corban a double-digit lead, and enough momentum to close out the third set 25-13.

Troutman led all players with a game-high 10 kills, falling one dig shy of a double-double with nine on the afternoon. Senior outside hitter Avari Ridgway and freshman opposite hitter Makayla Roginski each tallied eight kills to support Troutman at the net.

Senior setter Jadyn Mullen and senior libero Kealani Ontai continue to be the leading forces in the backcourt, as Mullen's 16 assists and Ontai's 12 digs each led both teams. Schmidt tallied an impressive three service aces and three blocks to keep the game solely in the Warriors' hands.

Walla Walla was led by outside hitters Sahara & Gabrielle Browning, who recorded nine and seven kills, respectively. Setter Anja Cole dealt out a team-high 10 digs in the Wolves' offensive scheme.

In a contest where the Warriors held the momentum the entire match, every single aspect of the game was held in the advantage of Corban, with the team leading in every statistical category. Most impressively, the Warriors held an 8-1 upper hand in service aces, and 41-19 kill and 38-19 assist counts offensively.

As a team, Corban held Walla Walla to a negative attacking percentage of -.023, the second time this season they've accomplished such an impressive feat.

The No. 5 Warriors bounce back for another CCC contest tomorrow evening, as they face the Lewis-Clark State College Warriors (9-5, 5-4) at 5pm PDT at the P1FCU Activities Center.
