Glaser and Krassner-Cybulski Score Goals for Bearcats in 3-2 Loss to Lewis & Clark

Goals by Braeden Glaser (Jr., F, Battle Ground, WA/Prairie HS and Nina Krassner-Cybulski (So., F, Porter Ranch, CA/Agoura HS) gave Willamette University leads of 1-0 and 2-1 in the second half, but Megan Yanagi of Lewis & Clark College scored the game's final two goals on lengthy shots as the Pioneers defeated the Bearcats, 3-2, at Sparks Field on Wednesday, Sept. 28. The Pioneers improved to 3-3-2 overall, 3-1-1 in the Northwest Conference, while Willamette moved to 4-4 overall, 2-3 in the NWC.

Neither team created a goal in the first half. During the opening 45 minutes, the Pioneers gained a 5-2 edge in total shots and a 3-2 lead in shots on goal. WU goalkeeper Sam Borngasser (So., GK, Grants Pass, OR/Grants Pass HS) registered three of her five saves in the first half, while L&C goalie Sophia Young made two of her four saves before the halftime break.

Glaser put Willamette on the scoreboard first at 54:30 on a 7-yard header near the left post. The play began with a corner kick by Jackie Gilroy (Sr., F, Mercer Island, WA/Mercer Island HS) from the right side. Lewis & Clark tied the score at 1-1 about four minutes later at 58:02. Sasha Raimondo tallied the goal on a shot from 17 yards into the lower left portion of the net. She received the ball near the top of the 18-yard box after a through pass by Celeste Schreifels from 35 yards out. Raimondo took only a few steps before shooting.

Willamette regained the lead at 2-1 on a shot by Krassner-Cybulski on a tap-in from less than a yard out near the left post following an accurate cross from the right side by Jaime Haysman Boaler (So., D, Stanford, CA/Notre Dame HS).

Yanagi's two well-placed shots changed the game in Lewis & Clark's favor. She scored the first goal at 68:27 from 22 yards out shot on the far right side into the lower left corner. Yanagi tacked on the game-winning goal at 72:19 on a 32-yard shot from the  middle of the field into the upper right area of the net.

L&C finished the game with a 19-8 advantage in total shots and an 8-6 margin in shots on goal. The Pioneers also attained a 6-2 lead in corner kicks.

The Bearcats will host Pacific University in a Northwest Conference game at Sparks Field on Saturday, Oct. 1. Game time is set for 12 p.m. (PDT).
