U.S. Congressman Kurt Schrader | OR U.S. House District 5
Today, U.S. Congressman Kurt Schrader (OR-05) voted to advance the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act and the Women’s Health Protection Act, two pieces of legislation to support reproductive freedom.
“In the aftermath of the Supreme Court’s consequential decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, at least nine states enacted legislation to take away a woman’s right to an abortion while others moved to criminalize interstate travel for individuals seeking abortion and reproductive health care. This is simply unacceptable.” Rep. Schrader said. “Today’s votes build off of the Administration’s response to protect women throughout the country and will restore the right to abortion nationwide while ensuring that those who need to travel to other states for an abortion or reproductive health care services can do so free from threat or prosecution.”
Schrader, a member of the Congressional Pro-Choice Caucus, has been a steadfast proponent of ensuring that safe and affordable reproductive health care, including abortion, remains accessible throughout the United States.
Having passed through the House, both Schrader-backed bills, the Ensuring Women’s Right to Reproductive Freedom Act and the Women’s Health Protection Act, now head to the Senate for further consideration.
