Athletic Director, Sue Roth announced on Monday that Corban University would no longer be sponsoring a women's wrestling program. She wrote the following:
To the Warrior Nation:
After much deliberation and consideration, Corban Athletics has decided to discontinue the women's wrestling program. Corban has always excelled in the sports arena and we are all very proud of that. Women's wrestling was no stranger to that excellence. In just their short two years here we sent a total of 15 women's wrestlers to the national stage and emerged with two All-Americans. However, due to necessary budget cuts and a coaching transition, we made a very hard decision to no longer sponsor the women's wrestling program.
I want to take this time to thank all the Warrior women's wrestlers for making the decision to come to Corban and be a part of the inaugural women's wrestling program. We thank you for your grit and hard work as Warriors, and we will always be proud of your effort and the strides you made in the world of women's wrestling.
We intend to continue to support these lady Warriors at Corban University. Scholarship commitments will be honored for those who choose to remain at Corban. However, we are well aware that many will want to continue to pursue their wrestling careers at other institutions, so we will do our best to assist with their transition.
Even though this is a very difficult decision, we believe this is in the best interest of the university at this time. It is our hope and prayer that the Lord will continue to direct the paths of all our student-athletes and their families.
