Corban Baseball Season Ends at CCC Tournament

9

The Corban University baseball team saw their season come to an end at the CCC Tournament on Tuesday afternoon. The Warriors dropped a back and forth affair with the College of Idaho by a final score of 8-6.

"I am proud of the effort this group put forward this year," said skipper Derek Legg. "It's always difficult to see a season end, but I want to thank our seniors for their work in helping us develop a solid foundation for Corban baseball."

The Yotes jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the contest with two unearned runs in the first inning, and two runs in the second on a bases loaded single against Warrior ace Zack Simon.

The Navy and Gold would answer back with a Keenan O'Brien RBI single in the bottom of the second and the score would hold at 4-1 until the fifth inning when rookie Ryan Clay drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 4-2.

The Yotes would tally another unearned run in the sixth on a passed ball. Corban would not go quietly, however, as first baseman Nainoa Ka'ahanui launched a 3-run homer to dead center field to tie the game at five through six innings. Unfortunately, the Corban lead wouldn't last long as CCC Player of the Year Jonah Hultburg launched a homer to right-center to lead off the seventh and give College of Idaho for good.

Corban added their final run on a homer from Ryan Clay in the ninth, but the rally would come up short, as the game ended at 8-6. The loss ends the campaign for the Warriors who finished the 2022 season with a record of 24-24-1.

It was another strong season for the Warriors who saw several players earn personal accolades and establish themselves in the Warriors record book for both their single season achievements and career numbers. The record books will be updated later this season.
